TEXACO’S PLAN OF ACTION

As a global energy company operating in more than 150 countries, Texaco shares society's concern over the issue of climate change and we believe that enough is known about it to warrant action now. Current and future generations deserve a safe and healthy environment. Therefore, we are actively addressing the issue of climate change through effective emissions management, the application of innovative technologies and constructive dialogue with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Texaco is responding to the challenge of climate change with a five-fold plan of action. We:

  • Regularly assess our emissions and incorporate strategies into our business plans to improve efficiencies.
  • Apply clean, more efficient technology and energy-efficient designs to manage and reduce emissions in core businesses and seek new market opportunities for the expanded application of that innovative technology.
  • Pursue and promote flexible market mechanisms (for example, emissions trading) and solutions that ensure worldwide access to clean technologies and cost-effective emissions reductions.
  • Participate constructively in the global dialogue on this complex challenge.
  • Are actively involved in research related to extracting carbon from the atmosphere. We also finance sequestration projects that directly offset atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions.

Together, these approaches are both good for the environment and good for business.

Among the environmental and regulatory issues related to climate change are those raised by the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, an agreement that calls for the reduction of greenhouse gases by industrialized countries. Included in this website are our views on Kyoto and other regulatory issues related to climate change.
